Introduction and the launch of the website!

This is me, the face behind by Floccu, completing the finishing touches to the website so it can go live during the Open Studios event coming up this weekend.

I can most definitely say I underestimated the amount of work involved in creating this website. While I'm sure I'll be tinkering with it for quite a bit more, I hope you'll find something here that draws you in. 

I'm an artist in two distinct areas, algorithmic sound and visuals on the one hand and repeat pattern design on the other. It might sound quite random, but my approaches to both are very similar. I'm interested in the tiny singular as a building block for patterns and rhythms. In sounds that means I'll take a small part of a recorded sample, a second or less and I'll repeat it in a particular pattern.

With my pattern design, I am forever photographing things like, the imprint of a leaf on a wet tarmac road, a certain curve of a single rocket salad leaf, the drawing made by the last bit of coffee in my cup. The day I realised I could actually use those to creates incredible visual patterns and rhythms was such a revelation. 

This particular collection I'm starting off with is based on my second trip to Japan, which was in 2023. The visual and cultural impact of that trip has been huge and I really needed to do something with the experience. So many of the elements here are based on my travel photographs. While it uses larger elements to build patterns with, I spent hours playing with visual rhythms. 

I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I do and that they create a valuable addition to your life.
